Focus and Scope

JOALS is intended as a platform for young researchers and students wishing to publish their work and who are finding it difficult to find a starting point in the sometimes tricky world of peer-reviewed journals. JOALS aims at producing high quality issues of peer-reviewed papers in relation to all aspects of academic legal research. Its editorial board includes university scholars as well as students who, in the process, gain an insight into how academic publishing processes work in practice.

Material relating to any area of law is welcome; but our underlying focus is on the dynamics of legal change and the resolution of failings or uncertainties within systems of law by means of new legislation or judicial decisions.

Detailed guidance for contributors as to the content and structure we are looking for in shorter article submissions, as well as tips on writing style and academic standards (including links to some useful websites), can be found under Author Guidelines.

Peer Review Process

Submitted manuscripts will be assigned to members of the Editorial Board for review, or to alternative or additional consultants familiar with the subject of the manuscript, as deemed appropriate by the Editors. Peer reviewers' comments will be made available anonymously to authors. The Editors or Section Editors will provide instructions for those manuscripts requiring revision for final consideration. Final decisions on suitability for publication rest with the Editors.

Publication Frequency

The regular issues of the Journal will appear at yearly intervals usually coinciding with the end of the academic terms. Special issues on particular areas of law may appear irregularly.

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...
